Here he is in all his glory... JARK!! :kissjarksass:
Full-view highly recommended. You can't even see the holster or probe in the tiny view. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed (I hope) I tried to mix both the aspects of 2d and 3d together, I call it 5D.... I wanted it to look as 2D as possible yet still have that slight undertone of a three dimensional look. It makes the image much more interesting if ya ask me. I also tried to keep it with that two-toned style. The probe design was originally based off of Yodas lightsaber, but of course changed quite a bit... not like you can see it anyways. Although it may nto seem like it, it was very hard to get the look I wanted exactly. No, I'm not just asskissing Jark... This project was initially started by Technical Notes Made in Maya, rendered in mental ray. It was modeled using mostly nurbs, and some polygons for the probe saber. Ramp shaders on Jark, his eyes, the probe holster, and the probe. The probe handle used both DGS and blinn shaders. It was lit with one simple mental ray area light, and a deviantART green colored IBL environment. No photons used this time, just final gathering because the ramp shader has issues with photons. The pixel samples were at minimum 1 maximum 2, with the Triangle filter at 2.0 width. The contours (toon lines) took FOREVER to get right. That's where I spent most my time. The image had to be rendered four times because of Maya's loopholes in the mental ray contours. They were composited together in photoshop. Here's some close-ups of Jark's probe model: [link] [link] [link] A full quality version of the image without jpg compression can be found at this [link] Daily DeviationGiven 2004-09-27Simply put, Jark by *DivineError is the best 3D render of the yellowalien that I have ever run across. The lighting is fabulous; overall the simplicity is what makes this a wonderful image. (Featured by °jark) |
